How do you start your day? Are you motivated enough to be the best version of yourself – every day? Are you afraid to speak up in meetings? Do you quietly sit back in your chair hoping that no one will talk to you? Are you scared of confrontations? A security professional or anyone for that matter needs to have the ability to speak up and make themselves known. Having pride in yourself and your ability matters. Your confidence will reflect on how the world sees and treats you. One needs to have the ability to look at an issue or problem and face it while having confidence in their ability to resolve the matter. Picture this…you are on your computer and you receive a phone call stating that one of the secured doors was left opened and a few employees were walking in the room taking stuff out. After you receive this phone call what are your actions? Will you be confident enough to attack this issue head-on and report with the assertion the issue to senior management? Keep in mind that the way you present yourself will make others determine how they will perceive you and the validity of your statements. Your lack of confidence in your ability could cause someone to be nervous or reluctant in believing someone that is unsure or overly apologetic. Make sure that if you have a problem, always have a solution readily available and communicate with pride to the right people.
Self-confidence is one of the most important traits that anyone can have. Surrounding yourself with confident people can inspire you to become confident. Building self-confidence is a skill that you can learn.
By starting your day with daily affirmations such as, “I AM awesome!” or “I AM powerful!” can make a huge difference in how you start your day. In the 1993 movie ‘Cool Running’, Yul told Junior to look in the mirror and tell him what he sees. Junior was unable to see beyond his physical form in the mirror and Yul had to help Junior see the power inside of him. Yul said “You see Junior? Well, let me tell you what I see. I see pride! I see power! I see a bad-ass mother who doesn’t take no crap off of nobody!” Junior was also able to recant these statements over and over; therefore, had the confidence to confront his father about an issue in the elevator.
When repeating something over and over again one will start to believe it. If you say that you are a loser and won’t amount to anything then you will believe it and accomplish nothing great. No one will take you seriously. But if you conjure up the confidence to walk into a room with your head held high, you will notice a difference in how people respond to you.
Listening to motivational clips, movies, or audio can help reassure your confidence as well. Sometimes when you can hear someone becoming triumphant through the same issue as you, whether fictional or not, it can have the ability to change your life. Knowing that whatever internal battle you are facing can be conquered can do wonders to your mental health and confidence.
Therefore, how will YOU conquer your fears? How will YOU harness the power and strength within? Don’t let fear or a lack of confidence stop you from achieving the things that you want most in your life. Confidence in your abilities’ and operating without fear can boost your job performance and give you the pride that you need to speak up when needed.
Don’t be the security risk that the company has to deal with.
